How cured in place pipe lining technology works

Before the advent of cured in place pipe lining technology, the only way to repair a sewer pipe was to start digging. If the pipe was under a driveway, you had to dig through it. If the pipe was under the home, you had to dig through it. Often, when a sewer pipe repair was done, the property owner had to replace flooring, sheetrock, and anything else that couldn’t be moved out of the way.

The CIPP lining process eliminates the hassle and expense associated with digging. Not only does this make cured in place pipe technology less invasive, the entire process can be completed in far less time.

Best of all, this technology is just as reliable as a sewer pipe replacement. Sometimes it’s even better. The new cured in place pipe has an average lifespan of 50 years, which is twice as long as some other pipe materials. Indeed, sewer pipe lining is synonymous with value. When you consider the alternative, there is little reason to choose traditional pipe replacement over cured in place pipe lining.

Our Seattle sewer pipe lining process from start to finish

Many people are surprised to learn that cured in place pipe technology allows us to repair an existing sewer pipe without removing it from the ground. In the old days, we had to dig up and cut out the old problem section of pipe and replace it, but CIPP makes it possible to rehabilitate the old pipe and make it better than when it was new.

The new pipe lining is created by injecting epoxy resin into the old, damaged pipe. When it cures, the pipe becomes hard and smooth with a durable finish that can withstand just about anything. Pay close attention as we review each step of our Seattle sewer pipe lining process:

  • Video Diagnosis – At Full Bore, we believe in getting the most out of technology to make our lives easier and minimize the disruption to our customer’s lives. We use video to diagnose sewer pipe problems and pinpoint areas where defects are causing flow problems. We run a long scope through the pipe, fully assess the problem, and then offer you a solution based on our extensive experience.
  • Pipe Clearing – Before we can line the sewer pipe, we need to clear any obstructions. To accomplish this, we use a Pneumatic tool or high pressure water to clear out root and blockages, and scale off calcification. This is non-invasive and required no digging, as we simply work from one point of sewer pipe entry. Once the sewer pipe is fully cleared, it will be back to its original diameter. While there may still be cracks or gaps in the pipe, they will be fixed during the next phase of the CIPP process.
  • Pipe Liner Installation and Curing – Once the pipe is fully cleared we insert an epoxy lining and use a bladder to push the material into place. Once the sewer pipe lining is fully cured, we deflate the bladder before removing it entirely. What you’re left with is a perfectly smooth, durable, like-new sewer pipe.

Seattle sewer pipe lining delivers reliable results every time

Obviously, there are countless advantages to CIPP when compared with traditional sewer pipe replacement. Keep in mind, that sewer pipe lining is not some new, untested technology. CIPP has been around for 35 years, it’s proven to withstand the test of time, and it often outlasts entire sewer pipe replacements.

Seattle Sewer Pipe Lining

Why else should you consider one of our proven pipe lining solutions?

  • Pipe lining is as good as new pipe – The epoxy resin we use to line your sewer pipe will remain structurally sound even if the old pipe entire disintegrates around it. CIPP technology is not a pipe “repair,” but rather a brand new pipe within the old pipe. It is just as good, if not better, than any sewer pipe replacement.
  • Hassle-free installation – By using CIPP technology, there is no need to dig up your landscaping, driveway, or home. The lining is inserted from one small hole at one end of the existing pipe, and is usually accessed from an existing conduit.
  • Future problems are mitigated – As mentioned above, the epoxy resin we use molds to the host pipe and fills any and all gaps or cracks. The new pipe is seamless, smooth, and impenetrable to roots and moisture that can wreak havoc on sewer pipes made from traditional materials. Because of Seattle’s wet climate, this is an unseen value that many people often overlook.
  • Better water flow – Many of our clients immediately experience improved flow. This happens because the pipe’s interior surface is smooth, unlike traditional pipes made from clay, concrete, or iron. The flow remains unimpeded because the pipe remains free from calcification deposits due to the smooth nature of the epoxy. All of which means, you won’t have nearly as much use for your toilet plunger.
  • Affordability – CIPP technology saves you money. A lot of money. In fact, you will save approximately 40% when compared to traditional pipe replacement, and this doesn’t factor in potential property repair costs associated with digging.
  • A solution with a warranty – All of our pipe lining jobs solutions come complete with a 10 year warranty. Still, you can expect your pipe repair to last decades longer than the warranty. In fact, CIPP technology has a life expectancy of 50 years or more. This is because the material is stronger than anything else available in today’s industry market.

How sewer line problems develop – The root of the problem

When it comes to sewer pipe, getting to the root of the problem often means encountering a root. Root intrusion is common, but often entirely unexpected. Worst of all, there is usually little to no warning that a root has compromised a sewer pipe, and it routinely happens on commercial and residential properties where there isn’t a tree in sight.

Tree roots can travel great distances underground, and in any direction. If your sewer pipe has one tiny hole in it, the root will find its way in. This isn’t just Murphy’s Law, it’s simple science. Roots are attracted to moisture, and a sewer pipe is like the Promised Land for a root in search of water and nutrients. Somehow roots have an uncanny knack for compromising sewer pipes in places below foundations and driveways.

The science behind root intrusion

As mentioned above, roots are attracted to even the smallest holes in a sewer line. But how does a root manage to enter through a tiny hole and create a complete blockage? While the root isn’t strong enough to penetrate a sewer pipe, the pipe is usually already in bad shape when the root manages to find it. Holes, cracks, and pipe separations attracts the root, and it slowly works its way into the compromised pipe.

Mother Nature has a way of compromising any damaged sewer pipe, whether it’s made of clay, concrete, or iron. In some situations, condensation on the pipe can attract roots from just about any plant or tree in the area, creating a conflagration of living matter around the pipe that contributes to its total failure.

Once the root enters the pipe, it has the perfect environment for fast growth. As it grows, so does the hole in the sewer pipe. More roots enter through the enlarged hole, and one day you try to flush your toilet and you realize that you have a big problem on your hands. You may try a plunger, then some drain cleaner, and you may even snake the drain, but none of these remedies stand a chance against a bundle of roots.

Even killing the roots with chemicals won’t help because the pipe has already failed. In these cases, it makes sense to contact our Seattle sewer pipe lining experts for a free estimate.
